A Day at the Races

Project Dolphin Safe and South Australian Seabird Rescue would like you to our annual fundraising event - A Day at the Races - with hats and horses, sunshine and champers

Last years Project Dolphin Safe event was a roaring success raising over $55,000. Pure Envy diamonds were won, balloons were popped, people flew around the room to the smooth tunes of Lucifers Lounge and held their sides as Gerry O kept us laughing and perhaps on the edge of screaming "too soon!".

It will be an afternoon to remember with a fabulous 3 course meal and 4 hour drinks package.

The day includes fashion parade by Tanya Powell, live body painting by Emma Hack, bookie Hollywood Syd and live/silent auctions.

Where: South Australian Jockey Club (SAJC), Morphettville Racecourse, Adelaide

When: Saturday, 6th February, 2010

Time: 12:00 - 17:00

Book your tables of 10 ($100pp) by contacting Tiffany Cowling by phone on 0410 943 873 or by email. Individual seats are available.

Project Dolphin Safe Community Events

Due to Mutton Cove's progression over the past two years and with sincere thanks to all PDS volunteers that have contributed to its restoration, PDS community events will now primarily concentrate on the PDS and SASR Rehabilitation facility located on Torrens Island.

This does not mean the Port River Estuary will go untouched by PDS volunteers throughout the year, in fact more and more volunteers will be assigned to specific areas to work on and hopefully remove the remaining rubbish from the river banks and surrounding environments. Smaller groups of people will be required to assist wherever possible and we welcome anyone aboard that would like to assist the very sensitive Port River Estuary region.

Next Event Brief

As official friends of the Department for Environment and Heritage - Adelaide Dolphin Sanctuary, PDS will be working with National Parks Officers throughout the year on Torrens Island every month. To understand the amount and what types of rubbish are floating up and down stream of the Port River; PDS volunteers and National Parks personnel will be holding monthly events of the North shores of Torrens Island removing rubbish and collating the information into a new Port River data base of rubbish that has been collected from the area over a one year period.

Fishing tackle is still one of the most intrusive and destructive problems this area faces and we will hopefully be working with more fishermen to help tackle this problem in 2010. Considering the number of responsible fishing persons out there, it's a pity that the minority of fisherman have given the majority a very bad name. Let's hope the tables will turn in 2010.

Project Dolphin Safe is happy to arrange a date and time to conduct school visits. Contact Aaron directly to arrange a time.

RSVP by contacting PDS on (08) 8262 5452 or by email.

We thank you and we look forward to seeing you there.
